Safety and Security

The safety and security of our participants is our primary concern. Participants will be given a detailed orientation for issues specific to travel in Israel at any given time period prior to departure and upon arrival in Israel.

Precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of all participants and minimize any risks. The itinerary of each group is coordinated with the appropriate Israeli security authorities. Our travel guides are extremely experienced in maintaining security and each tour bus is in ongoing contact with our Israeli program coordinators as well as our Routes office.

With over three decades of experience, the people at Routes Travel have always been committed to maintaining a tradition of excellence in preserving the highest quality educational, logistical, and safety standards. While an enriching and exciting Israel Experience program is certainly our mission, the security and well being of our participants has always been and continues to be our highest priority.

Routes Travel understands that questions regarding safety and security are of critical importance to potential participants and their families. We value this and are available to answer any questions that may arise at any time. All Routes itineraries are planned in accordance with the security directives of Taglit-Birthright Israel International and the Ministry of Education Situation Room. We hope that the information provided below will help clarify our organization's rigorous security measures taken throughout each Routes Travel program.

Free Time: Should free time be granted to the group, the location and time will be at the sole discretion of the Routes Travel office.

Communication: All buses have at least three cellular phones on board and two-way closed circuit radios that may be used in case of emergency.

Armed Escorts and Bus Drivers:The regulations stipulated by the Ministry of Education require Routes Travel to always have one armed security escort throughout the trip in Israel. In compliance with this requirement, Routes Travel does its best to guarantee the highest quality people with a solid background in security knowledge and training. All bus drivers are subject to Taglit-Birthright Israel approval. For precaution purposes, bus drivers are instructed to never leave the bus unattended or unlocked.

Routes and Roads: Groups will not be permitted to travel within the areas of the West Bank or East Jerusalem (except for the Jewish Quarter of the Old City). Group travel will be in accordance with the directives of Taglit-birthright israel and the Israel Ministry of Education Situation Monitoring Room, which change daily according to the situation in Israel.
